What do we get if we combine two popular memes: "Keep calm and code on" and "Keep calm and visit Lviv"? And if we add the fast green Drupal bus, good humour and exciting IT reports? Of course, we get DrupalTour in the city of Lviv which is the capital of Ukrainian web development services!
Here, behind the walls of ancient buildings, most advanced IT projects for customers from around the world are created. Here, in a traditional chocolate shop, you can buy chocolate computer mouses - and don’t be surprised if they work! :) Here, even our Drupal bus caught the spirit of IT and happily hopped along the ancient Lviv cobblestones towards George Hotel, where DrupalTour was to begin at 1 p.m.
Even the Lviv rain couldn’t quench the enthusiasm of tireless drupalers! People began to arrive long before the event, registering and receiving magic Drupal mugs as gifts.
Finally, in the conference hall of George Hotel, the most important part began. The superdrupallers started to deliver their reports! As could be expected from the IT capital, the audience not just listened attentively, but bombarded the speakers with questions. There even were heated discussions!
It’s both honourable and challenging to be the first speaker, but Artem Sylchuk of InternetDevels coped with this task perfectly. He informed the audience about the enhanced use of ApacheSolr in Drupal, namely, analytics construction, statistics calculation, geodata search and map clustering.
Then Yuriy Gerasimov of FFW talked about process improvement in Drupal development. He has been giving special attention to this issue over the last few years. Plenty to talk about!
Although real drupalers are “powered by Drupal”, sometimes they need to replenish their energy reserves with such simple but divine things as delicious pastry and fragrant Lviv coffee. A coffee break is also a great opportunity to make new contacts and maintain old ties :)
Refreshed by baked goodies, the drupalers eagerly started the second "round". Pavlo Shevchuk of EPAM Systems invited the audience to walk along "the bumpy road of Drupal 7" (because that’s a part of the name of his report :). He explained how to deal with speed and performance problems that can arise when developing heavily loaded content management systems.
A bright event needs a bright ending - and that was the report by Ivan Tibezh of InternetDevels on Drupal 8 theming: its main aspects, comparison of features in Drupal 7 and 8.
But that's not all! During the DrupalTour, everyone had the opportunity to test their Drupal skills and talk to our charming HR managers about their professional prospects.
There’s no DrupalTour without presents! The most active participants received cuddly toys: a PHP elephant and druplicons.
The meeting ended with a warm afterparty in a pub situated at the heart of the city, near Serbska Street. A great ending of a great day!
